Old-Fashioned Party Time

Connor insisted that he didn't want a birthday party at any of the usual locations - couldn't be at the local baseball facility or sports club.  Connor wanted a good old-fashioned home party.  During the long weekend of school break, we invited Connor's friends over for some games, food and of course ice cream cake.

The kids played pin the tail on the donkey, bingo, bean bag toss and guess the grab bag.  I think they were all thrilled with the prizes and games.

Our birthday boy was very excited and had so much fun.  And yes, that is Aunt Ellen too.  We were excited to share the long weekend with the entire Falahee family. 

The party started at 5pm but didn't break up until 11pm, so I think it was a good time for all.

Read All About It

Apparently our sledding trip didn't go unnoticed.  On Thursday night, when we opened the local paper we saw two faces that looked very familiar.  The local paper ran pictures of the boys throwing snow balls at Papa.  Unfortunately, Papa was edited out of the pictures. 

Sledding

Just a quick story. I wish I had pictures but I needed to keep my cameras safe. On Sunday, we went over to our local high school which has an incredible hill and had a blast sledding. Of course, Papa was as bad as the kids, including sending himself down on the slide head first. We managed to sled for two hours and have no injuries to report but to be honest it was close.

Connor's 7th Birthday

Apparently every seven years Connor's birthday brings us a blizzard. We did manage to make the most of being snowed in. Thursday afternoon as the kids finished up Kung Fu they were shocked to see Papa Winston standing next to our GMC. To say we are all shocked is an understatement. I didn't think wild horses could get Papa to leave his responsibility in Long Island when snow is arriving. I hope you realize Connor how special you are because you made a miracle happen.

So obviously on Saturday the boys were all geared up to get outside. After hours of shoveling and falling down in the eight foot snow drifts, we came inside for some fun games. We played bingo, pin the football on the end Zone and even had a piñata. With presents and ice cream cake, I think we managed to make a snow covered birthday very special.

Blizzard of 2013

February 8th brought to the New England area a historical storm. We are happy to report that with two feet of snow falling, we never lost power. Parts of CT received 38 inches so we were lucky to escape with 23 inches. The funny part is that we went to bed with Papa having shoveled about 9 inches of snow away from the front door to see this in the morning.

NBA 2013

Starting in first grade, the town runs a very competitive basketball league for the children. The teams are made up of first and second graders and I know Connor is learning a lot from the older kids. This past weekend was the first time they kept score of the game. Connors team, the Spurs, came out of a close game to win 30-20.

Connor was cheered on by his favorite cheerleader, his Emily.

Royal Reader

Today I was honored to be Connor's class royal reader. I arrived right on time to find the entire first grade class working on their morning work. I helped with some word searches and mazes and then it was my turn to read to the class. Connor chose Dr. Seuss' "There's No Place Like Space!" The kids all loved it and even participated in answering questions about the planets. It was so fun to see Connor in his element and I hope he loved having me there as much as I loved being there.
